What Is "The Palace"? -- General InfoDose

The Palace is the Internet's premiere software system for creating and participating in graphical chat worlds. Like most Internet software, The Palace consists of a "client" (run on your local machine) and a "server" (run by the host site). The client takes care of all user actions (chatting, painting on the screen, playing with props, etc.), and handles sounds and pictures by downloading files from the server, just like a web browser. The server itself maintains everything else about the virtual world and the objects in it: rooms, doors, hotspots, animations, sounds, props, bots and avatars.

Getting Oriented

* Take your Web Browser out to The Palace and have a look around. You'll find pages explaining The Palace, a directory of publicly-accessible Palace Sites, a number of Palace discussion groups, and a downloads page. Download and install The Palace client for your platform.

* Open a PPP connection and launch the Palace. Select FILE, CONNECT. In the dialog box that pops up, type in the Server Name www.labridge.com (leave the port number set at 9998). This will take you straight to the ECI Palace.

* If you register your Palace software ($25, see www.thepalace.com for details), you get the ability to create your own props and faces, run your own server, write your own scripts, and other neat functions. The more time you spend as a registered Palace user, the more you will appreciate the power of IPTSCRAE, the Palace scripting language.
